Yonehara vs Estevan

I'm promoting the battle of the photographers. I kid, I kid.
Imagine a battle between Yonehara and Estevan, who would take the title? How sick would that be? Both of them are great friends of mine and at the top of their game. Check out some of their works...

Off the Hook

There is so much heart into home assembled food. Thanks to my Babushka Tamara Donskaya and extended Russian family. The "Ribyetz" aka Smoked Shed is literally off the hook. All I need now is a shot of Vodka. Zagat again... you're slippin'

The Worse

Never get huevos rancheros in Brooklyn. This little Spanish spot (Pedros) had the looks of authenticity but when the food came out from the kitchen it was everything but authentic. Luke warm, taste like shit and looked like a bad case of salmonella. This place gets a NEGATIVE and never again. ZAGAT, I did you guys a favor.

Rocksmith's backyard

Took a trip out to Brooklyn to visit my friends at Rocksmith. Glad to see that they are doing great. Kenshin (Partner of Rocksmith) was showing off the rooftop view aka "backyard" and making me feel a bit jealous of the spectacular view of the bridge and city. One day Kenshin, one day I will have a backyard view like that too.

Hot Dog + Papaya = Gray's Papaya

I never understood why Grey's Papaya sells hot dogs, but it works. Not the best dogs in the world and not even the best hot dogs in New York, but for a buck thirty (starting @ $1.35) - would you complain?

New York's Lower East Side has some of the worlds best mom and pop coffee shops. Check out this little whole in the wall. Its been around since the 70's and offers egg sandwiches, peanut butter sandwiches and of course coffee. Can't tell you exactly where it is.. but here's a clue (Ludlow and Hester)

The Art of Man

Pablo Picasso created the most famous and celebrated painting of the twentieth century as a personal reaction to the horrors and destruction of war. Titled “GUERNICA”, it depicts the Nazi German bombing of Guernica, Spain, by twenty-eight bombers, on April 26, 1937 during the Spanish Civil War, becoming the first aerially attacked city in history. Picasso painted this massive masterpiece as his way to express to the world the meaningless carnage of wars. It is modern art's most powerful antiwar statement.

The bombing inspired Picasso. Within 15 days of the attack, Pablo Picasso began painting this mural. On completion The Spanish government commissioned Pablo Picasso to paint a large mural for the Spanish display at the Paris International Exposition (the 1937 World's Fair in Paris). The Guernica was displayed around the world in a brief tour, becoming famous and widely acclaimed. This tour brought the Spanish civil war to the world's attention. Guernica epitomizes the tragedies of war and the suffering war inflicts upon individuals. This monumental work has eclipsed the bounds of a single time and place, becoming a perpetual embodiment of peace.

"The Spanish struggle is the fight of reaction against the people, against freedom. My whole life as an artist has been nothing more than a continuous struggle against reaction and the death of art. How could anybody think for a moment that I could be in agreement with reaction and death? ... In the panel on which I am working, which I shall call Guernica, and in all my recent works of art, I clearly express my abhorrence of the military caste which has sunk Spain in an ocean of pain and death."

- Pablo Picasso

Blueprint for Discovery

In the daily (re) discovery of music in my archives, I came across this gem by Jerry Peters "Blueprint for Discovery." Widely under appreciated, Jerry was the sound architect for Foster Sylvers, Gene Harris, Brainstorm, Deniece Williams, Ronnie Foster, and other 70's trailblazers... Combining soul, funk, electro, and jazz tones, his arrangements and production are top notch.

The "Blueprint for Discovery" LP was a solo effort in '72 featuring his keyboard and production prowess. Although not a commercial success, this album lives on in crate digger / collector / producer / audiophile heaven!

Raise it up for the man behind 'Misdemeanor' and 'Losalamitoslatinfunklovesong', a true purveyor of fine music... Check the You Tube clips below for a taste of this fine morsel and a few other bits of creative genius. Also, a big shout to Marc Mac (4Hero) for his fine feature of Mr. Jerry Peters and his body of work (check out all of his podcasts, crucial!). Click here to visit the podcast

THE ONE

my one and only love

The very thought of you makes
My heart sing
Like an April breeze
On the wings of spring
And you appear in all your splendor
My one and only love

The shadows fall
And spread their mystic charms
In the hush of night
While you’re in my arms
I feel your lips so warm and tender
My one and only love

The touch of your hand is like heaven
A heaven that I’ve never known
The blush on your cheek
Whenever I speak
Tells me that you are my own

You fill my eager heart with
Such desire
Every kiss you give
Sets my soul on fire
I give myself in sweet surrender
My one and only love

The blush on your cheek
Whenever I speak
Tells me that you are my own
You fill my eager heart with
Such desire
Every kiss you give
Sets my soul on fire
I give myself in sweet surrender
My one and only love

My one and only love
